40 Hours to California

This will be a running blog of our travels across the country as we drive our lightly modified 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI across 3,000 miles of highway and winding roads from Little Ferry, NJ to Los Angeles, CA. Estimated driving time, 40 hours.

ROUTE

Since time is of the essence, the route will be mostly interstate highways all the way to Los Angeles.
Major cities and attractions we'll pass along the way: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, SIA Plant, St. Louis, Kansas City, The Great Plains, Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, Las Vegas, Los Angeles.

LODGING

I'm planning three-four days at most of lodging. One in Chicago, another in Kansas City, then in Colorado Springs, and finally in Las Vegas. This should divide our trip into 600 mile chunks.

The drive across Kansas sucks balls, bring a couple good books or a DVD player. Colorado Springs is cool, get there early if you want to go up pikes peak cause they close the road at night. Also, going from the Springs to Vegas is a fucking long haul.

No radar detector. I got a job in Los Angeles, so I'm relocating. I might sell the STI once I get there; trade it in for a WRB WRX wagon. Not likely, but if I see a kick ass deal, I'll do it.
