Job Description:
The LAN Administrator installs new desktop PC’s and associated software. The incumbent will also perform troubleshooting and implement corrective action. The LAN Administrator assists other LAN Administrators with the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of servers. In addition, this position will support Internal Shared Systems Infrastructure, participate in technical projects as needed and properly utilize the IS Service Center system for logging, tracking, and communication of technical support issues. Workstation rollout and resets are also handled. this position will assist with the purchasing, receiving of workstation and server hardware & software. The successful candidate will be familiar with Microsoft desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office tools, and Lotus Notes. Exposure to Unix environments is also useful.
DIMENSIONS: Types of Hardware Serviced (PC &/or Mid-range): Intel based desktop and laptop workstations Intel, Sun, IBM, and Hewlett Packard based servers and storage devices. Types of Programming Languages or Operating Systems Used: Network Operating Systems, including Windows NT, Windows 2000, Novell, Solaris, AIX, and Linux Workstation Operating Systems, including Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, and Linux Microsoft 2007 Office Suite tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Mail Applications including Lotus Notes and or Microsoft Outlook , Altiris, Patchlink, Symantec antivirus, Ghost imaging software, VPN and Terminal emulation applications.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports To: Distributed Systems Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Perform the installation, administration, and troubleshooting of desktop, laptop and workstations. 2. Initiate problem determination relating to MS Office, Lotus Notes, and dial-up services. 3. Assist with the planning for, and design of, new services. 4. Assist with the procurement of all office computer hardware and software. 5. Assist with monitoring and reporting of office servers. 6. Assist with other projects as assigned. 7. Ensure compliance with network polices, procedures and standards. 8. Maintains procedural documentation. 9. Perform application system support for client based product. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: An Associate Degree in Computer Science or related discipline is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or other technical major is desired. Related work experience, combined with appropriate certification may be substituted for educational requirements.
Job Related Experience 1. A minimum of one (1) year of hardware repair experience. 2. A minimum of two (2) year sas a system administrator. 3. For internal advancement, a minimum of two (2) years at your current job level 4. Experience with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and XP required. 5. Exposure to any versions of Unix is desired along with Microsoft Server.
General Skills 1. The ability to successfully and positively interact with internal clients 2. Demonstrated written and oral communications skills. 3. Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform logical problem solving. 4. Strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow through on assignments. 5. The ability to use Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office tools effectively. 6. An appreciation for the difference between production and development environments. 7. Problems are generally solved with clear, detailed guidelines or by reporting them to a senior level administrator.
Functional Area Skills and Knowledge 1. Knowledge of Desktop Operating Systems, Office Tools, and basic Local Area Networking. 2. Basic knowledge of Server Operating Systems, including Microsoft, or Unix. 3. Basic experience with services including Web Servers, Domino/Notes, and Relational Databases.
