Virus/Spyware

So, I just had the hard drive wiped of viruses and replaced the DVI input and the GFX card.

I fucked up this POS with a faulty torrent, had all kinds of viruses and spyware and trojans. Most of that is gone now. Problem is, my internet still doesn't work right. I'm at normal speed on SOT, and only on SOT, but myspace or hotmail don't even pop up, almost as if there's no internet connection. I can get to Google, but upon trying to search it just stays loading, like the other sites.

I'm gonna try a system restart, and I'll try to clear shit with Norton or some other AV program.

Cr@x, Vert, anybody else?

try AVG and/or malwarebytes.

2) search AVG
3) wait for infinity minutes for it to load
4) ????
5) profit.

This sucks, I'm just gonna restore the fucker. I'll see if that helps...

Have you tried clearing your temporary internet files, cookies or repairing your internet connection?

viruses nowadays are a pain to get rid of fully. I'd go for a reformat+reinstall of cracked XP SP3. Thats my favorite fix.

I should really just create an image of my HDD when I have everything just the way I like it so reinstalls = breeze

Yeah, I killed everything in temporary files. No go.

Husak, I tried the system restore, but for some reason it doesn't even give me the usual "press F2 for restore" option at startup, or maybe that's not where it was...

...I'll go look for some disks I guess.

Alot of Virus embed themselves into system restore now. So be cautious when restoring from there. Do you have an antivirus program running before you were infected. But in the end you might just have to wipe it clean and start over again.

But isn't a restore wiping it clean? And if it is embedded, then there's no help for it right? By restore, I mean not putting it back to an earlier point, I'm talking about resetting the whole thing.

I didn't have anything, since I waited to borrow Norton from my dad. Wouldnt've helped, since shit just started going haywire right away.

A legit restore would entail formatting the HD then installing a fresh copy of windows, that should cure your problem.
