Boosting Wifi signal

Well in short, i'm not sure if some critters mangled the phone wires, but different lines in my house have somehow intertwined, so that I cannot get a clear phone or Dsl signal (i'm hearing line B when I pick up line A and it's the bot operator fucking it all up) and it's a miracle the internets is working for a bit right now. That being said, I have shit to do tonight and need to find a way to get better reception, possible leeching w/e's available the radius of my block if possible until I can get someone to come look at this. Has anyone tried anything like that?

how far away is your wireless router from your computer? most routers can only travel a couple hundred feet away. make sure you have it in an optimal location (not on the floor, in a closet, etc.) I know it may sound tacky but have you looked into the DIY "tinfoil" method?

if you're talking about boosting your own wifi router's signal, you can get a third party firmware for the linksys router that has the option to boost the signal.

the one i have is called hyper wrt

it sounds like to me that you're trying to steal someone else's wifi.

in which case i don't think there is a way to boost the signal, since it broadcasts from the router/ap, not your computer.

you can try to download a sniffer to see if you can find any SSID's that are not broadcasting, but you can still connect to.

seriously all you need is tinfoil. create huge antenna bowls with it and tape it your wireless routers antenna

I just saw a couple off of youtube, none of them looked like they'd get past the walls (sift+antenna method)

yeah, just in case it cuts off again, but then again, i'd rather not waste the time, when I might end up with everything around being encrypted. Just gonna call up AT&T and see if I can temporarily turn back on my unlimited data plan and work with that.
