Verizon Wireless - No Contract Required!

This is straight from vzw's website.

No Contract Required — New Month-To-Month Agreement Gives Verizon Wireless Customers Even More Freedom

Quote:
Beginning today, Verizon Wireless customers who want to enjoy the best customer experience in wireless, but don’t want to sign a one- or two-year customer agreement have a month-to-month option. The new Month-to-Month agreement is an extension of the company’s overall commitment to delivering its customers quality products and services over the nation’s most reliable wireless network, while providing the industry’s best customer service.

Verizon Wireless’ new Month-to-Month agreement gives customers the freedom to purchase new devices at full-retail price, or use their own CDMA devices without the commitment of a one- or two-year contract. Additionally customers can terminate their agreement at the end of any month without paying an Early Termination Fee.

The company’s Month-to-Month agreement is now available on all Nationwide Voice and Data plans for both new and current contract customers. Current contract customers must fulfill the terms of their current contract before moving to a Month-to-Month agreement.

Customers who want to sign up for a Verizon Wireless Month-to-Month plan can visit a Verizon Wireless Communications Store, go online at Cell Phones, Cell Phone Plans, Cell Phone Accessories - Verizon Wireless or call 1-800-2 JOIN IN

Leave it to Verizon to take something that has been going on with other carriers for years now & make it sound like a BIG deal..

Fact: Other carriers have allowed consumers to use their service w/out a contract. AT&T allows you to use your own phone or purchase one at no committment & their service with no contract. As does T-mobile. Verizon is making a deal about it now simply because they have never allowed the purchase of their equipment w/out an initial contract. Welcome to 2006 Verizon

yea.. just a little.. Verizon needs a reason to compete these days. With carriers releasing new devices, improving call quality & faster networks they HAVE to offer "new" ideas to keep customers. While I've never judged Verizon's service since I personally have never had an issue with them however with their terrible handling of UI (ever notice ALL of their phones look exactly the same on the screen), phone selection is finally looking up instead of adding colors to the chocolate line-up & now allowing consumers not to be stuck HAVING to buy a contract & a phone w/out a commitment.

While many will argue "well what about at&t and Apple forcing people into contracts" the only argument to that is the phone is part of an exclusive program between two companies both looking for profit. I agree at&t got the short end of the stick of that deal but expect other carriers to follow suit. Beginning today with T-mobile's exclusive G1 Google phone.
