Blackberry Javelin 8900: Hands on

Now THIS is the Blackberry I'm waiting for.. all the hype is for the Bold of course but this one is the perfect option in my opinion. I personally don't feel the need for 3G on a blackberry.

* Wi-Fi b/g with UMA + GPS in one
* OS 4.6.1, featuring Safe Mode start up
* 480 by 360 high-res HVGA+ display
* 512 MHz Processor
* 256 MB onboard flash memory (more room for apps)
* Hot-swappable microSD slot - located under the battery door
* 3.2MP camera, includes auto-focus
* Glass cover - one piece glass cover will house the camera and flash, providing a very polished look and feel
* Micro USB charging/syncing port, w/ high speed data
* Dedicated Lock Button - will allow easy access to lock / hold the device when not using a holster
* "Sweet Spot" narrow keypad
* Battery Cover features a new easy to use, latch mechanism

My Pearl 2 has that same back cover/latch mechanism. I like the look of the OS as well. Any estimate on release date?

No release dates thus far. Hopefully it won't turn into another Bold fiasco getting pushed back from June to now saying Nov'

Verizon has the Storm & T-mobile has the Pearl flip aka kickstart coming in Nov as well. Difference is the Bold was SUPER hyped up so a lot of people are pissed.

I've tried the Bold in person & while it's a very nice phone it's just too big of a device IMO. The Javelin is about the size of the Curve and same style keyboard which I love.

I agree I have the Pearl 2 now and work is paying for my service. Now I am debating whether or not to upgrade to the Curve 2 or wait for this. Writing long ass e-mails using Sure Type just becomes too much.

I am going to guess the OS is 4.6.

I am upgrading my Pearl right now to 4.5.

there's probably not much of a difference between 4.5 and 4.6 other than a few minor bug fixes.

i'm itching to get a new phone, but i'm just completely unimpressed with the new bb's.

And why is that? EDGE is fucking terrible.

i think it's all about where you are and what os you run. i have no problems with edge. it load fairly fast. not that much slower than the 3G phones around here.

apple completely fubared at&t's 3G network with the iphone so it's probably not even worth getting. i still want the bold, but not enough to pay the $300 or whatever they want for it, assuming i can upgrade.
