Shifter's *Official Classic Car Thread*
For my age I'd say I'm steeped in classic car knowledge, and instead of setting up a classic car blog nobody will read I've decided to start my own thread here. I'll be randomly selecting interesting classics and showcasing them here whenever I'm bored enough to do so. BTW I feel that any car 10 years old qualifies, so I'll be really running the gamut year-wise. Pics will be photobucketed so hopefully they won't start disappearing. Enjoy!
Let's start things off with an oft-ignored Porsche of more recent heritage: The '92-'95 Porsche 968. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ok, so at first glance it's a 944 with sexier bodywork. However, the car stands out in it's own right because of the unique engine type placed underhood: ![]() That is a massive 3-Litre four cylinder (second largest four ever in a production car), replete with VarioCam (VVT) on it's 8v single cam head, Turboed in some versions. Mated to this was either a typically great Porsche 6-speed or to a Tiptronic, which was brand new technology at the time. The Turbo version belted out a good 300+ hp @ 5400 and a staggering 369lb-ft @ 3000 with the stock turbo pushing out 1 BAR. Really impressive for a 4cyl, 3000lb car! Ever heard a production four sound like this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_968 ![]()

Here's what I believe is one of the most beautiful cars ever made: The stunning '67-'73 Maserati Ghibli
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking like a goddess in both coupe and spyder versions, the Ghibli was meant to compete with the Italian sports cars such as the Lamborghini Miura. However, the Ghibli was really a Grand Tourer in every sense, and impeccably so. The legitimizer of any great GT car its the engine, and the Ghibli measures up. Its 4.7 to 4.9-litre V8 was close to square, and breathed by spinning four cams total over its 2v/cyl layout. Nothing revolutionary there, but the 335hp @ 5500 and 355lb-ft @ 3000 (4.9L) definately qualified as 'getting there' in 1970. Top speed was near 160 in fifth. ![]() An interestic statistic is the dual tanks, each with their own filler on each side. Truth is, though, the car simply isn't about stats. Just take a look at this gorgeous example. It speaks for itself. And they simply can't make an interior like this anymore: ![]() ![]()

Great interior? I like the idea of the center starter, but the radio deck is buried in the transmission tunnel. No matter, I like the 968/944 better. Kid's mom from school has a 933 (?) in red.
